About

I have spent the past 28 years working in the world of non-profits. I enjoy working with individuals that have intellectual or developmental disabilities. Currently I teach them to manage money, avoid exploitation and pay bills. Each of these skills will help them live independently.
Though I continue to work my day job….I have recently started to pursue my lifelong dream of writing. It is not something I do for money….it is something I do to make my heart happy!
I am a distance walker. I love exercise and try to eat healthy. I share my life with a very loving and supportive partner, 3 awesome ladies with intellectual disabilities and precious 4 legged children.

I believe you will find my blog encouraging and positive in nature. I consistently view the glass as half full. I choose not to waste energy on the negative and I relish in the positive.
I enjoy sharing my thoughts with others and I truly enjoy reading what my followers think. Please take time to share your thoughts and opinions. All I ask is that everyone play nice…kindness really does matter!!

Hello newest Spikey! I know, a bit corny, eh, but thatโ€™s the term that has come to stick for those folk who are part of the clan known to be followers of Uncle Spike ๐Ÿ™‚

Thank youโ€ฆ I really appreciate that as I for one, know how many interesting and entertaining blogs are out there.

My aim is to deliver an eclectic offering of posts, from my โ€˜point n shootโ€™ attempts at basic photography, to the sharing of my travel adventures over the decades, as well as day to day happenings here on the farm. Oh, plus a few observations on life as I see it, thrown in for good measure.

My promise to you is not to be overbearing, just a couple of posts a day, maybe 3 at weekends if I have something special to share. But if you are at a loose end one day, maybe youโ€™ll enjoy trawling through some of my older stuff too. I have added plenty of categories to help in said digging process.

Thanks again and hope you have a great dayโ€ฆ

      Thank you for stopping by!
This blogging community is an amazing thing. Since you were kind enough to stop by for a visit, I stopped by your place for a visit! I really enjoyed many of your posts. I live in Texas and I’m an American….but I am a lover of Canada and especially Ontario. I will be in Northern Ontario at the end of July.
I look forward to following your blog.
By the way….I love the pride pictures taken by your son. As a fellow LGBT community member I’m sure your son is grateful to have a supportive mom!!

I agree with you about the blogging community. I never imagined I would ‘meet’ so many wonderful and interesting people.

Thank you for your kind compliment. We are also grateful for all the wonderful ways he’s added to our lives – including all the other ‘sons’ we now have who “adopted” us because of him ๐Ÿ™‚

Thank you; I’m looking forward to “normal life” resuming after the show. It is driving me a little crazy at the moment, but I keep reminding myself that Women’s Refuge really does benefit – and they do so much great work with so little. It has to be worthwhile.
        Take care, cheers, Su.

Thank you…..but I’m not a guy! But no worries….it is a common mistake in my life. I am not a fluffy female and I have an androgynous name. Thanks for stopping by. I visited your blog and believe I will enjoy your writing!

Great oddball post, but your About profile snagged my interest more. Good luck with your writing, and just plain being the nice person you sound like you are. Happy New Year.

That is something I need to do…clean up my blog or organize it.
Its been just under a year since my first post. I’ve learned a lot but need to learn so much more.
I would appreciate any ideas or suggestions you may have.

I’ve written several posts on blogging, but not for a while. You can look under categories. I write improvement posts about blogging usually when I’ve just overcome a hurdle, and I’m always trying something new without know what I’m getting myself into. Then I’m stuck. ๐Ÿ™‚

    Hi Tree,
Thank you so much for visiting my blog and I was excited to see a few familiar bloggers in the comments. I was comforted to read about how you have worked with people with disabilities. I have some disability issues myself which are outlined in my about page. I really appreciate the support and understanding of people like yourself who get it.You might be interested to read my posts about going skiing with the support of the Disabled Winter Sports’ Association and also learning the violin. These are both thing I never thought I’d be able to do but was launched onto this path by my kids. xx Rowena

      Hi Rowena!
Thank you for the visit and kind words.
I look forward to exploring your page more thoroughly. I am always encouraged by people that don’t allow obstacles to stop them from attempting new things.
My clients have taught me so much over the years. I’m sure I am a better person because of them and their ability to teach me many things!

I’m glad you found familiar faces in my comments. I am fortunate to have met wonderful people since i started blogging.

I have been so amazed and appreciative of the love and friendship I have found blogging and have found it such a contrast to much of the real world. It’s been great because my mobility isn’t always great and so having this online community through my computer screen has meant the world to me. Sometimes, I get a bit discouraged by the stats but they have built up over time, bit by bit. I have now just past 16.000 view and 6,000 of those have been in the last 4 months. That said, I have really put the effort into it too.
        xx Rowena

      2. treerabold Post author

I too find the slow climb of stats a bit frustrating. But I have learned the more I reach out and interact the better off it is! Plus I get to meet new friends like yourself!

What I’ve also found is that there are blogging circles and I somehow got picked up by one and then you sort end up with a group of people who are reading each other’s posts. I have been blogging for around 3 years and it’s really only been the last six months that it’s picked up. I was reblogged which introduced me to a group of bloggers and they had won some awards and I received my first nomination. I still haven’t been freshly pressed but I’ve received 4 awards and I just need to work out how to stick them up on the new theme. I accidentally changed themes one night. I have worked very solidly on it for the last 6 months and have seen my views dramatically increase. I read a lot of blogs as well and have built some wonderful friendships. If you look at the post I did about doing the A-Z Challenge with WordPress, there are some great blogs there.

        I will check it out.
It takes time and dedication to build the numbers. I stay pretty focused for periods of time then fall off due to life distractions.
I find doing the challenges helps me get more exposure.
I believe you are correct about the groups. I’m just thankful the group I seem to have fallen into is kind and supportive!

      1. A voice from the past

Trying again. I feel it is important. This is not the best way, but maybe I will make the connection. 20 years is a long time. I am sorry.

      2. treerabold Post author

Iโ€™m not sure anything can be reconciled if I donโ€™t know who I am reconciling with…or why. Please share your name. If we do know each other I would be happy to talk.

      3. A voice from the past

This is not the right place to have this conversation but i don’t know how to reach you . All i can say is we had a huge falling out about 20 years ago. If you have forgotten, then it might be best to leave it in the past. V.
