This abandon gas station is located in a historic neighborhood. When I see buildings like this I think about the stories, the people, and even the products that once were. I can imagine the rotary phone on the wall and the manual cash register on the counter. I am certain the guy behind the counter knows every person that walks through the door and the young man pumping gas knows every car by sight.
Its an era of simpler times, summer evenings on the front porch and lightening bugs by the thousands.
I do the same thing when I see older buildings! I am always trying to imagine the people who used to live or work there. Glad to know I’m not the only one! It’s hard to describe things like this to people who don’t have that sort of imagination. 🙂
its nice to know there are more people with the same curiosity!
Oh, and I also do that when I’m walking in the woods – I imagine what it was like 200 years ago and how many more trees there may have been and how Native Americans may have lived and walked on the very same soil I am walking on. It’s cool and humbling at the same time.
I understand how that can be humbling.
When I am driving through places like west Texas or the great plains….I can’t help but think about what it must’ve been like when the Native Americans lived freely on the land or when the settlers were staking claims across the land.
Add me to the group too. I have a certain fascination with abandoned buildings – part sad, part nostalgic, part curious, part imagination …. and a huge part of ‘what would it take to restore it?’
I do too….I always wonder what secrets the walls know. Buildings like old stores I imagine restoration and living in the restored building!!
