Recently my mom gave me this quilt made by her mother.

My grandmother lived to be 93 years old. I was very fortunate to share an adult relationship with her and my grandfather (he lived to be 92). They were married for 72 years.

The last time I saw my grandma (AKA Nanny) she was is a hospice hospital. I had flown to Ohio to spend time with her and grandpa. While I was there I drove grandpa to hospice so we could visit with Nanny. During our drive each day he would tell me stories of days gone by. He was a wonderful story teller.
During one of those stories he told me about the first time he met Nanny. According to grandpa they were 8years and 10 years and Nanny told her friends, “I am going to marry him.”
That afternoon, during our visit, I asked Nanny if Grandpa’s story was true or if he was just pulling my leg. Even though Nanny was somewhat sedated and not totally alert, she looked at me and said, “He was the cutest boy I ever saw.” Needless to say a few tears formed in my eyes.
I have several keepsakes from each of my grandmothers and with each I have happy memories. However, even without the physical reminders, they will forever live in my heart and in my memories.

What a lovely story, Tree. The quilt is beautiful and what a special thing to have. My grandmother lived to be 93, and was just a light in my life. She’s been gone for 8 years this month and I miss her a lot.

What a touching post, Tree! I love handmade blankets and such. Her’s is so beautiful.
My family is very spread out, generationally. I only met my maternal g-parents. They both passed before I was 18. However, all of them were handy with needles and threads. I have many sweaters & blankets my mother and grandmother have made. Such wonderful keepsakes!
I lost my paternal g-father when I was a child and paternal g-ma in my 20’s
I think that helped me appreciate how much time I had with the other two.
My grandma tried to pass on some of her needle knowledge….but it never took!!

I wish I still had my grandparents. There’s no one else in the entire world like them…for any of us!! I tell people that becoming a grandparent is why we have kids!! Loved the quilt your grandmother made. It reminds me of a book about an American quilt.

I do miss my grandparents….
Given your work, you’ll appreciate my post today about lost socks. I have terrible trouble keeping track of things. Photographed the mother’s day breakfast at the school this morning and then forgot to order the kids’ lunches. Also, got a flat tyre on the way home this morning. Weird stuff happens to me all the time. I’m now off for my nap before the kids get home. Hope you are having a great day.
