According to Dictionary.com Anticipation is the act of anticipating. Realization in advance; foretaste. Expectation or hope. Intuition, foreknowledge, or prescience.
I love to watch my dogs play. I especially love this little behavior Sugar displays when she is playing with one of the other dogs.
If the other dog stops to potty or goes to “base” (also known as the patio – where apparently she isn’t allowed to rough house – must be a dog rule) to take a break from wrestling and chasing, Sugar waits in great anticipation for play to resume.
Do dogs anticipate? I would suggest watching Sugar “anticipate” the return of her playmate…the definition describes her behavior perfectly.
She stares, she waits, she anticipates a future of fun…..Then one of her playmates takes one step off base and all bets are off…..Sugar is ready to play. She has waited long enough!
The A – Z Challenge will run through April. Each day is a different letter and a different photo…I hope you all enjoy!
I love the 2nd picture – oh yes, she’s anticipating fun!
I’ve also noticed her tail is still pink … or is this an older photo?
Looking forward to more alphabet ahead 🙂
The pictures are from January…sadly her tail does still have a hint of pink to it. She is going to the groomer Friday hopefully a professional scrubbing will help! Our home remedy baths haven’t done much!
On the other hand, it clearly labels her a girl with a sense of style 😉
I heard someone just today say dogs have no emotions. I don’t believe that. I think they know more than they let on. More than us sometimes.
Cute post, Tree.
Thanks Gemma! I agree….I think they have feelings and are quite thoughtful 🙂
It’s funny how your dogs made up their own safe zone (base). Reminds me of playing games as a kid and having that same rule (a place you couldn’t be tagged or whatever). And I agree- Sugar is totally anticipating play!
It is funny to watch!
The dog rules of fair play!!
We’re often told that animals live only in the present (and thus we should try and be more like them), but it does appear that you’ve got some anticipation going on here!
I think for a lot of reasons we should try to be more like our dogs!
