“I Found a Worm!”

“I found a worm!” The little boy yelled as he ran toward the back porch.

“I found a worm. I found a worm.” He repeated as he neared the group.

When he stopped, he extended his hand with pride, the adults giggled.

He stretched his arm as high as he could toward the adult’s face.

The adults continued to giggled, then the adult with the “worm” closest to her face said, “Sweetie, that’s not a worm, that’s a cricket.”Paul cricket

The little boy looked down at the creature in his tiny hands and studied it.

As though he knew the answer all along he jumped off the porch and ran across the yard to his brother.

“I found a cricket!” “I found a cricket!” “Look, I found a cricket!”

The adults giggled.

Cee’s Fun Foto Challenge: The letter X

This week Cee has asked us to share photos with an “X anywhere in the word or our primary photo subject needs to be shaped like the letter X.”

This railroad sign was spotted in a basement bar in Okemah Oklahoma.RR sign

For the final photo, I was attempting to take a picture of my puppy…but inadvertently focused on the fencing and the Xpuppy fence

DP Weekly Photo Challenge: Variations on a Theme

“This week, use your camera to discover the endless variety that one thing can contain.”

I took these photos several months ago in a friend’s art studio. At the time I had no idea if I would ever use them for anything. But I loved the colors and the various sizes of chalk  lined in the wooden box.IMG_4647

Now The Daily Post is asking for “…endless variety of one thing.” My mind immediately went to these photos.IMG_4646

Against the Odds…

The Daily Post, weekly photo challenge, is to share the unexpected.

The most recent unexpected event I could think of was our visit to Celestun, Yucatan to see real live flamingos. Not flamingos that stand around in a pond at the zoo…but real live flamingos, in the wild, in their own habitat, with their families and their friends…NOT surrounded by screaming children with nowhere to go and nowhere to fly. img_5757

Fortunately, for the flamingos, the boat we hired  was only allowed to get within a certain distance. Unfortunately for my photography we couldn’t get closer. img_5635

I could have watched these pink creatures all day. Tina and I both have a long standing love for these unique creatures. So having the opportunity to see hundreds of them at one time was a dream come true. img_5530
