DP Weekly Photo Challenge: Variations on a Theme

“This week, use your camera to discover the endless variety that one thing can contain.”

I took these photos several months ago in a friend’s art studio. At the time I had no idea if I would ever use them for anything. But I loved the colors and the various sizes of chalk  lined in the wooden box.IMG_4647

Now The Daily Post is asking for “…endless variety of one thing.” My mind immediately went to these photos.IMG_4646

Weekly Photo Challenge: Weathered

We frequently take trips to West Texas to visit family. I enjoy stopping to take photos of abandon buildings, store fronts and houses.

This is a building in Tahoka Texas. PW abandon

It is an abandon grocery store.  If you look closely at the weather worn painting on the side of the building you can make out, Piggly Wiggly. This is a grocery store chain mostly found in the south of the United States. I was actually surprised to learn that this chain still exists. I guess because I’ve never seen an open one.Piggly Wiggly

On the opposite side of the building was a weather worn painting I really liked.  cow wall paint

I actually think the weathered look adds to the appearance of the painting.

Daily Post – Textures

This week’s photo challenge is “textures.”

I’ve found myself attracted to brick walls lately. Not neat, smooth brick walls. But, old worn brick walls.

So here are a couple of the walls I’ve taken photos of over the past few months.

DP Weekly Photo Challenge: Look Up

IMG_3750

“This week is all about taking a moment to check out what’s going on above you.”

This photo was taken at an old train station in Snyder Texas. I enjoy seeking out the “different” photo. Just as this challenge suggests, looking up and away from my typical line of site…I was able to find a shot many might never notice.

Pure – The North Woods

I have been traveling to Northern Ontario since childhood. Much of the woods, lakes and land remain untouched by modern advances. DSC_0341

Each time I travel into the North Woods of Ontario I feel a sense of renewal…to me it is the true definition of pure.DSC_0388

Weekly Photo Challenge: Monochromatic

“This week, share with us your monochromatic images. Be calculating and creative in choosing your subject and focal point; resist the urge to simply take a photo of something with a single color range. Go beyond the obvious choice, and have fun!” (The Daily Post)
