365 Days of Photos – Day 1

This picture was the first picture taken by me in 2015. It was taken at 2:08 AM on      January 1, 2015.                                                                                                                                   We arrived home from a New Year’s Eve get-together and as a normal occurrence in our household the dogs were let out to do their business. Unfortunately it had been raining and many muddy paws re-entered the house and jumped on the bed. This resulted in a changing of the sheets. But a very playful and silly dog wanted to play instead of letting us make the bed. And that resulted in a picture of a silly dog playing tent under the pink sheets!

Gone But Not Forgotten – DP Photo Challenge

Chelsea came into my life when her original person had to move into a nursing home. She was 8 years old at that time. Who would’ve thought I would get to spend more than half her life with her.

Chelsea

She celebrated a total of 18 birthdays. This picture was taken at her 15th birthday. Also known as her Quinceanera. She raised over 2 hundred dollars at this birthday party for a local rescue group.

She “worked” with my clients. As a social worker she frequently met people who had turned hard to the world…yet she had a way of turning their hearts soft again…if only for a minute!

Chelsea and Maggye

She travelled the country. Bringing smiles to all she met. Whether she was on a leash, in my backpack or sitting at a table, she was always well mannered and precious!

Chelsea and me

This was our last day together. I had to finally release this precious angel to the Rainbow Bridge. It was one of the hardest days of my life. Chelsea is gone but she will never be forgotten.

If My Dog….

Sugar

They say I mess up the bed.
They say I don’t pick up after myself.
They say my hair gets on their clothes.

They also say I’m cute and they smile when I roll on the bed pillows.
They throw my toys around the house and tell me to chase them.
They hug me and snuggle me….even when they are dressed in nice clothes.

If I understood my humans….I could train them better!

A Weekly Series – If My Dog…..

If my dog had thumbs….

Oh the things she could do…..

She could open the door to let herself out.
But, she could also open the door for random sales people, door to door preachers and the guy that just wanted to see if the house was available to be burglarized. Why would she do that? She already thinks every person that walks in the front door is there to see her. Imagine what she would think if she was home alone and someone rang the door bell.

“Hey, the doorbell is ringing!” The dog would say, as she jumped off the couch. “I wasn’t expecting anyone….but I’m sure its someone that wants to scratch my ears!”

Off to the door she would gallop, tail wagging, barks of welcome ringing from her mouth.

Though the door to door preacher expected to share “the word” with a human, my dog would use her apposable thumbs, open the door and let the nice man in. The evangelist would be confused and my dog would soon realize she had no idea what this man was talking about. She would be confused about his insistance of saying dog backwards. I’m also sure my dog would not understand why the man wasn’t scratching her ears.

Return to this blog next week to find out what happens when the random salesperson tries to sell my dog a fancy cat magazine….

A Weekly Series – If My Dog…

“Wanna go for a ride?”

Wag, wag, bark, bark, jump, full circle turn, wag, wag!

And off we go to the car.

Now, this is where I question my dog’s judgement. This wonderful creature has no idea whether we are going to the corner store, the dog park, the vet or on vacation. Does she need to grab her doggie snacks? Will she need her favorite blanket? Maybe she will need her favorite rolling, bouncing round thing!

She grabs nothing!

She runs to the car, jumps into the backseat, does a quick spin and sits down. She waits patiently for me to roll down her window. Once the window is down far enough for her to put her head out, she is ready for “a ride.”

If my dog thought logically she might try to use the restroom “one more time” before getting in the car.
If my dog thought logically she might sneak a couple quick bites of kibble and lap-up some water before hitting the road.

But, sound judgement and logic do not appear to be part of my dog’s make-up. She is carefree, easy-going, laid-back and spontaneous!

If I were like my dog….I would jump up and down with excitement at each new adventure that crossed my path!
