365 Days of Photos – Day 144
Two days ago I posted a picture of one of the plants in my yard. It is not unusual of me to plant something and not know its name (and I sleep fine at night!) However, Midwestern Plant Girl was stumped and I hate to think my photo could cause her to lose sleep.
The previous shot did not clearly show the bloom. So here is a better photo of the bloom….hopefully this photo will help Plant Girl identify this flower. If not…I hope its not too devastating!

The Texas flag.
Flying over a field of hay.
Before moving to Texas, a state flag was something you learned in school. I don’t remember anyone flying the flag of Ohio on their house or in their yard. I remember it standing in a corner of the cafeteria in elementary school but I don’t remember it flying in my neighborhood.
In Texas the state flag is part of the culture. It flies along side the American flag. It is raised at every possible event. It is sold as a souvenir. There are even clothes made from this flag.
I noticed this particular flag a few weeks ago while driving south on I35. I’m not sure if the photo does it justice….but this flag is huge.

I mentioned yesterday how much rain we have been getting lately. Today I found these ducks that apparently chose to relocate from the nearby waterway to the new lake in the middle of an apartment complex.
They splashed and played
Ans Ms. Duck showed off her beautiful coloring
They appeared to be enjoying their little vacation lake!

We usually get enough rain in Texas to enjoy Spring flowers and some green grass. However, the heat and dry weather shows up very early (usually by mid-May) and the grass quickly turns brown.
The first time I visited Texas was over Memorial Day weekend 1998. The temperatures were already in the low 100’s.
This year has been very unusual. It has been raining so much that our lakes have gone from unusable to full. Our rivers are overflowing and our grass is still green!
I took this picture earlier this evening. It is not unusual in Texas to see waterfalls with no water. But right now the waterfalls are bursting with water.
Its nice that the Texas drought is subsiding….but I must admit, I am tired of the rain! I’m ready for big blue skies and lots of heat!!
