Weekly Photo Challenge: Blur

Just under the wire….

I took this picture earlier today. Normally I would consider it a “throw away” shot. But as soon as I saw it I thought about this week’s challenge….Blur!

The more I looked at it, the more I liked it…blur and all!

H = Hiking

I walk a lot. But I don’t get a chance to “hike” very often. I guess to me hiking is getting away and becoming absorbed in nature. This is one of those things I will jump at the opportunity to do if it presents itself…but I rarely initiate the activity.

This picture was taken a few years ago in New Mexico. I was hiking with my friend Corey and my Pomeranian Chelsea (notice she is peaking out from the backpack!).

365 Days of Photos – Day 97

Back in February my friend and fellow blogger Amy from, The World is a Book, posted a picture of Tarrant County College in downtown Fort Worth. Her angle of the campus was fabulous and she was kind enough to mention me in her post.

Earlier this evening I was biking on the Trinity River Trail and happened past the campus. i thought of Amy and the picture she posted. I decided to stop and get a shot of the campus from the opposite angle that Amy had taken her photo. So here it is…

G = Gorilla

These photos were taken at the Fort Worth Zoo. I think this guy is very handsome!

This guy may not be a “real” gorilla…but he’s cute! He was part of the cheering crowd during the 3 Day walk for breast cancer. The lovely people surrounding him are my dear friends, teammates and fellow walkers.

F = Fifty Plus Years of Friendship

Chelley and I have known each other since birth. As children we told people we knew each other in the womb…and that we had telephones in our mom’s stomachs and….well you get the point…we had quite a story going!
Chelley and I played with cowboys instead of Barbies. We played for hours in the creek instead of playing house. We rode bikes, played sports and frequently checked the Most Wanted posters in the Post Office then sat on a stoop in our little downtown and watched for the criminals on the wall (yes we did!)
Our split in activities came in 8th grade when Chelley decided volleyball was painful and chose cross country (no I never understood that choice!). She always seemed a natural at running and I couldn’t stand it. During track season she ran the mile and I threw shot put.
When I finally started running (in my 40’s) I dreamed of running with Chelley. But we lived states apart so it didn’t seem like it would happen. Then our 50th birthday came around and we agreed to meet in Louisville KY and run the Kentucky Derby Mini Marathon (1/2 marathon). It was a great day and the best way I could ever imagine to celebrate our 50th birthday.
Just shy of 13 miles, we saw our family and friends!

We have another friend that we met in middle school. The three of us have remained close throughout our adult lives. All 3 of our birthdays are within a month and a half. So when we lived closer to each other we made a point to meet up and celebrate…even if we had not seen each other for the year…we always picked up right where we left off.

Even though we’ve had the opportunity to visit each other over the years, we have not been able to celebrate our birthdays since I moved to Texas 16 years ago. So it was even more special that Lyn joined us after the half marathon for dinner.

I know that no matter the distance between us….Lyn, Chelley and I will always share a bond that is impossible to break. And who knows, maybe for our 60th birthdays we’ll climb a mountain!

Cee’s Black & White Photo Challenge: Phone

As a child my house had one phone and it hung on the wall in the kitchen. It was rotary dial and had a very long cord so the person talking on it could move around.

Today…my phone contains my schedules, music, photos, games, my thoughts, my text messages, emails, and of course my phonebook!

E = Easter

Easter, the Christian holiday meant to commemorate the resurrection of Christ. Honestly I’m not sure how this holiday is celebrate in other countries but somehow, here in the United States, we recognize the resurrection through chocolate bunnies and hard boiled eggs dyed with bright colors. Oops…I almost forgot, we also eat a lot of food!

When I moved to Texas I learned about a tradition that I had never experienced in Ohio. Cascaron eggs…AKA Confetti eggs. I have learned that confetti eggs have a long history in Mexico…and this explains why they are so popular in Texas! As neighboring States (state and country to be exact) we share many traditions.

Confetti eggs are just that….real eggs hallowed out and filled with confetti. The eggs are then smashed over the heads of friends and family (I would suggest you never smash a confetti egg over a stranger’s head….really don’t!)

Our house not only enjoyed chocolate candy and decorated hard boiled eggs yesterday, we also played with cascaron eggs. Fortunately we did all of our smashing outside!

The confetti

Even though we took the messy fun outside….we are still finding confetti on our pillows, on the couch, and on the dog. Maybe by next Easter all the confetti from this year will be cleaned up and we can do it all over again!
