The Mice of the Abandoned House

The mice scurried freely around the old abandon house. Many years had passed without a single human sharing their space. So imagine their surprise when the two large boots moved slowly across the warped floor boards. Their instinct to hide sent the mice darting for safety. Each mouse lay quietly behind the baseboards, watching the two large boots scuff through the dust filled room. The brown boots stirred the dust across the floor. Like an ocean wave crashing into the shore, a barrage of dust filled the protective cubby holes. As though on fire, each mouse burst from behind the wall, scattering for fresh air. The boots, at first intimidating, became comical as they lifted from the floor and flittered from the house like a ballerina. Migration Time

It is migration time in Texas. The Monarch Butterflies are passing through. I went to the Fort Worth Botanical Gardens and the Dallas Arboretum and was lucky enough to stand among hundreds of butterflies.

As I zoomed in to get pictures of the monarchs I felt overwhelmed by their beauty and amazed by the journey they were undertaking.

The Daily Post: Signs #2

sign#2

An old sign at a busy intersection. The restaurant long gone. It seems to be a good example of how we ignore the past. Look closely at the missing letters…”Family owned since 19_6″

This space, once provided a living for the owners and food for the patrons. It was a place of laughter and clanking plates. It was a place of first dates and birthday parties. It was a place where memories were formed.

But now it is an overgrown street corner. Traffic flies by, trucks, cars, and motorcycles zoom through the traffic light. Those caught at the red light, focus on their phones, or frantically wait for their signal to go.

No one stops to consider what once stood, or whose memories lay abandon in the field.
