D = Donkey

This Donkey appears to be a guard donkey. He hangs out in a field with horses. It is my understanding that donkeys do not like coyotes, dogs, etc. and will protect farm animals from such creatures in the event of an attack.

So lets hear it for this brave little donkey!

Though he seems a bit shy and not a hero that likes to have a big fuss made over him!

B = Bluebonnets

Bluebonnets – the state flower of Texas.

The Texas Bluebonnet

The Texas Bluebonnet

Bluebonnets start popping up around the 1st of April. They stay for a couple weeks then they are gone.

Field of bluebonnets

During that couple week period Texans race to take photos of their children, their grandchildren and their pets in patches of bluebonnets.

The first two photos I took today, specifically for this post. The last two were taken last year at the peak of bluebonnet season….because I am like all the other crazy Texans….looking for the perfect bluebonnet shot of my family and pets.

365 Days of Photos – Day 90

Do ducks have gangs?

I stopped by a local lake today to take some pictures. These 2 ducks started chasing the little guy with the black head and puffed up feathers. Every time he slowed down they kicked up water and took out after him again.

Duck Chase

When he finally reached the shore he started chasing 2 ducks that kinda looked like little outcast ducks.

I’m not sure…but I think there maybe a need for some duck police to patrol these waters!

A = Anticipation

According to Dictionary.com  Anticipation is the act of anticipating. Realization in advance; foretaste. Expectation or hope. Intuition, foreknowledge, or prescience.
I love to watch my dogs play. I especially love this little behavior Sugar displays when she is playing with one of the other dogs.
Sugar
If the other dog stops to potty or goes to “base” (also known as the patio – where apparently she isn’t allowed to rough house – must be a dog rule) to take a break from wrestling and chasing, Sugar waits in great anticipation for play to resume.
sugar
Do dogs anticipate? I would suggest watching Sugar “anticipate” the return of her playmate…the definition describes her behavior perfectly.
Sugar
She stares, she waits, she anticipates a future of fun…..Then one of her playmates takes one step off base and all bets are off…..Sugar is ready to play. She has waited long enough!

365 Days of Photos – Day 89

purple flowerThanks to Lady Bird Johnson and her legacy, Spring in Texas is an explosion of wildflowers. One of the first flowers to make an appearance each Spring is this little purple guy. He is so tiny….but there are few places you can go and not see him and his little purple friends filling the boulevards and lining the highways. There are millions of them all over Texas…aren’t they cute?!

To Crop or Not to Crop

Earlier today a fellow blogger made a suggestion on one of my posts. This is one of the things I have come to like most about WordPress and this blogging community – the willingness of bloggers to share knowledge.
The suggestion came from Gemma who blogs at First and Fabulous. Her suggestion was to crop out some of the grass in the foreground of the photo I posted March 30th, making the focus the building not the grass.
I am new at this photography thing and I have not learned to focus on cropping (unless it’s a glaring distraction) so it really didn’t dawn on me to crop out the grass.
As suggested by Gemma I went back to the original photo and cropped out most of the grass. I get it!! I see what she was talking about and I’m excited that she was kind enough to share her thoughts.
I see more detail in the reflection and the building is now the main focus.
Thanks Gemma!
