365 Days of Photos – Day 56

Yes, I was out stalking ducks again today. I didn’t plan to hang out with the ducks….but they were so rambunctious I couldn’t help but stop and watch them.

However, it wasn’t the ducks that kept my attention today. Instead it was a group of gulls that flew around the pond. Occasionally a gull would land in the water and try to “blend in” with the ducks. At least that’s the way I interpreted their behavior!

I love this piece of art….I’m really not sure what else to call it. The chair, boots and butterfly net were installed a few years ago when this medical center, associated with our local children’s hospital, was built.

While training for the 3 Day Breast Cancer walk we end up passing this chair at least once…and yes you guessed it…we stop for pictures!

Today I stopped to snap a quick shot of the chair…too cold for anyone to sit for a pose.

365 Days of Photos – Day 54

Once, rarely twice, a year we get hit with an ice storm. It is that time here in North Texas. As a former Northern I know people up north see an inch of white stuff on the ground and laugh that we shut down the city. I must tell you, as a person that drove many years in crazy winter weather…I now laugh because I get the day off!

I only left the house to play with my dog in the back yard…and take pictures…I did not leave the yard 🙂

On “Day 28” I posted photos of our rosemary bushes. Today I thought I’d share our “iced rosemary!”

It is my opinion that any person that considers themselves a photographer (amateur or professional) would never pass up the opportunity to take a picture of this sign! If this sign were posted outside of a Government installation I would not consider taking the shot. However, this sign is posted on a metal fence that appears to surround a scrap yard….I couldn’t resist!

365 Days of Photos – Day 51

I love flowers, trees and most plants….as long as they don’t smell bad or poke me! But, I am not schooled in plants. I know more about plants than a few people and a lot less that a whole bunch of people. But I love to watch them go through their yearly life cycle. I enjoy putting my hands into dirt and participating in the life of a little guy with leaves and blooms.

But again…I am not educated in plants. So, today when I saw this beautiful blooming tree a few blocks away i hurried to it and started taking photos. The problem is…I’m not totally sure what it is. I immediately thought it was a Bradford Pear….they bloom early and have white flowers. But then I realized this tree is not shaped like a Bradford Pear. I finally settled on The Dogwood.

I did a little Googling and feel pretty confident in my choice. However, if there is someone out there that would like to challenge my decision I am always willing to concede to one with more knowledge.

365 Days of Photos – Day 50

Our Lab-mix Sugar tore apart her kennel about a month ago. When I arrived home that day, she calmly met me at the door…as though this was the normal routine. At first I thought someone had not latched her kennel correctly…then I looked at the kennel.

I still don’t fully understand how she managed to bend the front portion of the kennel enough to squeeze herself to freedom. I especially don’t know how she did it without hurting herself.

Sugar will be 2 years old soon. She is extremely well potty trained and for the most part doesn’t chew anything but tissue paper and the occasional advertisement. So we decided we would allow her to be free in the house during the day while we are at work. Its going well…our furniture is still in one piece and no holes have appeared in the dry wall.

Now, for the photo explanation….Every morning, after all dogs have completed their business in the backyard, I tell them to go bedtime. Everyone has their place to go….well, everyone but Sugar. She still goes to the place her kennel was a month ago. She stands there for a few minutes…until she realizes it is no longer her “bedtime” space…then she casually  walks away as though she was just messing with me!
